Three Cases of Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome


Abstract
Neuroleptic Malignant Syndrome(NMS), first named by Delay and Deniker, is fatal illness characterized by muscular rigidity, hyperthermia, catatonic stupor and autonomic dysfunctions. Although Delay and Deniker suggest that respiratory
insufficiency
is a
cardinal feature, it seems probable that respiratory distress associated with pneumonia is a secondary complication resulting from dysphagia.
The pathogenesis of NMS is nuclear But the various sign of NMS can be explained as disorder of hypothalamus, basal ganglia and brain stem functions.
The treatment of NMS is early diagnosis and discontinuation of the antipsychotics immediatly. And next, it is helpful that intensive conservative treatment and drug treatment, such as benzotropine, dantrolene sodium, benzodiazepine,
The authors present three cases of possible NMS .Their detailed clinical and outcomes are reported thre with a brief review of therapeutic exploratins.
